Eastern Star begins Qld seismic

Hoping to emulate the success it enjoyed with gas appraisal/development work in a similar basinal setting in the Gunnedah Basin, Eastern Star Gas has commenced seismic operations in PEL 6, Bowen/Surat Basin.

This survey will acquire a minimum 140 kilometres of new seismic data in two phases; Phase 1 - 72 kilometres prior to Christmas and Phase 2 - 68 kilometres commencing on the 2nd January, 2002.

Eastern Star Gas holds a 97.5% working interest and is the operator of PEL 6, which covers a total area of 5,872 square kilometres. According to ESG, PEL 6 hosts an unexplored petroleum system consisting of thick, highly permeable Early-Mid Permian age sandstone reservoirs interbedded with marine sediments, which possess good hydrocarbon source rock potential as well as a large, undrilled anticlinal structures.

"Seismic data is being acquired over large anticlines that have formed in front of the Moonie-Goondiwindi Fault with the aim of delineating the structural closures for testing by drilling," the company said.
