CCI calls for Federal Government support in the Burrup


Despite the apparent declining fortunes of the Burrup Peninsula as a major regional industrial hub the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) has called for increased government funding for common use infrastructure in the region.

While the area is commonly seen as an attractive site for heavy industry the lack of infrastructure is just one of the significant problems facing any future development, along with the increasingly strong Australian dollar.

Consequently the Federal Government's Strategic Investment Coordination Program has had limited success in attracting investment to the region.

The CCI has argued in a letter to the Prime Minister that as the Federal Government will major benefactor from royalties generated from the region it should increase infrastructure funding to attract increased investment.
