Our Identity

The Petroleum Club of WA is an industry network and educational resource for the oil and gas sector. We are the only Petroleum Club in Australia and operate from what is now commonly referred to as the Resource “Hub” of Australia, being Perth Western Australia. We are a membership based organisation comprising around 700 professionals from all aspects of the industry.

Our Identity

The Petroleum Club of WA was established in 1966 by a group of Explorers who believed there was a need to set up a facility that provided the opportunity to networking and information exchange. The very first official Petroleum Club Dinner meeting was held on Tuesday 10th January 1967 and was held at the Ocean Beach Hotel and the cost was $3.00 per person. How times have changed! Although the groundwork for the Club’s establishment had been conducted almost exclusively by explorers, it was agreed that the Club membership should be expanded to include all persons who had an interest in petroleum exploration and production, rather than be limited to geologists and geophysicists and thus the evolution of an Organisation that encompasses a multi-faceted conglomeratic industry approach.

Our Purpose

Our core objective is to provide a Professional Platform in which industry professionals and affiliates can unite in a common ground to ensure continued growth and sustainability within the sector. Our activities are designed to create an arena wherein professionals can mix both professionally and socially in order to facilitate long term associations and business opportunities and where continued professional development, education and public awareness are promoted. The Club holds monthly diner meetings for it’s members conveniently located in Perth CBD, Introduction to Petroleum Industry Seminars in conjunction with APPEA, as well as several high profile social events during the course of the year including the Golf Tournament, Yachting Regatta, Annual Ball and end of year Sundowner.

In line with our mandate to promote education and awareness within the sector we are a proud supporter of the Schools Information Program, headed up by Don Sanders (APPEA, which is an educational initiative to raise the awareness of the technical aspects and career options available in the industry for Year 10 students. This structured educational program is offered to approximately 800 students through the Metropolitan Area and regional schools in Western Australia and we are honoured to have the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Dr Ken Michael as a Patron of the Program.
